Field trials with Aedes albopictus in Georgia, USA.BG-Sentinel vs. Mosquito Magnet DefenderIn a rural area south of Atlanta, GA, the BG-Sentinel was compared to the Mosquito Magnet Defender ®. The Mosquito Magnet Defender is sold to the end consumer and uses propane gas to produce carbon dioxide. An additional lure is usually recommended to trap Asian tiger mosquitoes by the producers of the Mosquito Magnet. To compare the basic catching performance of the two different trap designs, both traps were run only with carbon dioxide as an attractant. Additional lures such as the BG-Lure were not added. Four traps (two Sentinels and two Magnets) were placed on different positions. Tests were performed on four consecutive days. Each trap was tested on each position for one day. ![]() While the BG-Sentinels caught a total of 21 Aedes albopictus, the Mosquito Magnet Defender did not catch any at all. |
