A comparison of different surveillance techniques in Cairns, Queensland, Australia showed that the BG-Sentinel was an easy-to-use and effective surveillance trap for the yellow fever mosquito.

Because of high catching rates (compared to all other conventional traps and surveillance methods), the use of a back-pack aspirator to vacuum indoor resting mosquitoes is considered the "gold standard" of Aedes-aegypti-monitoring.

The trials in Cairns showed that the continuous use of the BG-Sentinel caught more yellow fever mosquitoes than the labour-intensive and intrusive use of the aspirator.
